Hilltop Steak House | Saugus, Massachusetts
A giant neon cactus attracted customers to the Hilltop Steak House, a Western-themed restaurant along US-1 in Saugus (MA). For me, the Hilltop was a favorite dinner stop on the way home from a weekend in Maine.
Once the busiest restaurant in the United States, the Hilltop was a New Englander's Wild West fantasy. Dining rooms had names like Kansas City and a herd of fiberglass cattle grazed out front. The restaurant closed in 2013, but the sign was refurbished and incorporated into new development on the site.
